ABOUT
An old man looks back on his life, chasing his memories through the years.
Who is Kelver Leash? Over four acts and 20 songs, the decades unfold…
Decades is a collaboration between singer/songwriter David Palfreyman and writer/actor Nicholas Pegg, who describe it as “a great big double concept album with all the trimmings”.
Together with producer/engineer Ian Caple (Tindersticks, Suede, Tricky, Kate Bush), they have created a double album which entwines Palfreyman’s music and lyrics with Pegg’s linking narrative, building into a meditation on the fragility of time, memory, and personal history.
Lead vocalists on the album include Sarah Jane Morris (best known for singing Don’t Leave Me This Way with The Communards), Cassidy Janson (star of Leading Ladies and the West End shows Chess and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), Ian Shaw (twice winner of Best Jazz Vocalist at the BBC Jazz Awards), Mitch Benn (singer/comedian on BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show) and Jessica Lee Morgan (singer-songwriter whose acclaimed albums include Around The Block, I Am Not, and Re:Boot).
Other musicians on Decades include Gary Barnacle (saxophonist on classic tracks including David Bowie’s Absolute Beginners, Tina Turner’s I Don’t Wanna Lose You, and T’Pau’s China In Your Hand) David Clayton (keyboardist for George Michael, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Elton John, Simply Red, U2 and many others) and Terry Edwards (multi-instrumentalist with Madness, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, The Blockheads and Julian Cope).
Linking the songs are dialogue scenes featuring an all-star cast of actors headed by David Warner (Titanic, The Omen, Time Bandits), Richard Coyle (Coupling, Prince of Persia, Born To Kill), Jacqueline Pearce (White Mischief, Plague of the Zombies, and galactic villainess Servalan in Blake’s 7), Jan Ravens (Spitting Image and Dead Ringers, currently turning heads with her uncannily accurate Theresa May), Edward Holtom (Sherlock, Shakespeare’s Globe, and the title role in the West End production of Oliver!) and Simon Greenall (Benidorm, Trapped!, and perhaps best known as Alan Partridge’s Geordie friend Michael).
DAVID PALFREYMAN
David Palfreyman began playing in bands and writing songs in his early teens, and has toured extensively in the UK, Europe and the USA. He formed his first group, The Custard Garage, in the 1990s before going solo under his nickname Malf. Under this name he released his debut album RadioMagnetofon in 2010. David is also an actor, with credits including Brassed Off, Peak Practice, EastEnders, and productions for the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and the Canal Cafe Theatre in London.
NICHOLAS PEGG
Nicholas Pegg's writing credits include theatre shows, audio plays, short stories, and the acclaimed book The Complete David Bowie (a noted Bowie expert, he has worked as consultant on many projects including the V&A exhibition David Bowie Is, the BBC’s Five Years documentaries, and the Royal Mail’s set of commemorative Bowie stamps). He is also an actor, with credits including everything from Shakespeare to pantomime, Scottish Opera to Doc Martin, and regular appearances as a Dalek in Doctor Who.
Decades is available now from Diteli Records on double vinyl, double CD and digital download.
